Job description

The MaCaW project is a 3-year programme to help SMEs in Lancashire to improve their efficiency, grow capacity and develop new solutions for industry. MaCaW will help SMEs to reduce both direct and embedded energy usage and lower the regions carbon emissions.

The project manager post will be based in the Centre for Waste and Resource Management (CWM) within the School of Forensic and Applied Sciences. It is an opportunity to work with internationally renowned researchers across energy resource, environment and technological solutions with small and medium businesses in Lancashire. The role will lead the MaCaW ERDF project and supervise day to day activities of the project team. They will co-ordinate staff activity in order to successfully engage with SMEs in Lancashire, plan and oversee the organisation of workshops and conferences towards meeting project objectives. The project manager will be responsible for driving the project forward and ensuring contractual targets are met, managing the development and the needs of SME companies. The project manager will also be involved in the delivery of project activities and must have the skills to identify and communicate effectively with Small and Medium sized Enterprises.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with SMEs on projects in either an academic or business environment. The post holder will have well-developed project management skills and will have experience in power and energy flows and auditing and a proven track record of research skills in collecting, analysing and presenting data.

The candidate will have a familiarity with the UK carbon commitment and the role SMEs play in meeting these targets.

The position will provide the successful applicant with a range of experience including industrial engagement and environmental/energy auditing. We are seeking individuals with high motivation to work with SMEs in developing new skills and learning new technologies and their implementation. The successful candidate will also have an ability to work with clients in a professional manner and possess good team leadership skills. A degree or equivalent qualification/experiential learning in environmental auditing, carbon technologies, environmental management or a related area is also essential.
