Job description

Centre for Connected & Autonomous Automotive Research within the Institute for Future Transport and Cities, Coventry University is looking for a Research Fellow as part of the "PARK_IT" project funded by Innovate UK "Meridian 3: autonomous highway, rural and parking test facilities (CAV TB2)". Park-IT will create the most advanced city parking environment for testing connected and automated vehicles.

You will be part of a team of three research fellows. Under line management, supervision and guidance of Dr Sujan Rajbhandari, and in close collaboration with project partners, you will contribute to research and consultancy activity, prepare reports and deliverables within the Park-IT project. In addition, you will support the Centre's research, including the submission of funding bids with support from your line manager.

The role includes design, prepare and build test rigs to accomplish the research targets as set within the project framework. The candidate is expected to carry out work on Lidar-based mapping and V2X communication in simulation and real environments in collaboration with the internal and external research partners. The post requires digitization of the permanent and non-permanent infrastructure in order to facilitate the study of autonomous parking and V2x connectivity. The post will investigate the wireless V2X connectivity (LTE-V, 802.11p etc.) performance under dynamic channel/network conditions in a simulation environment (such as NS-3), interoperability between V2x communications simulation and virtual driving software, and the V2X connectivity scenario generation for connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs). The candidate may need to undertake own projects and support the submission of funding bids.

Prior experience with V2X network simulation ideally using MATLAB and NS-3 is essential. An automotive relevant background combined with experience of using automotive simulation environments such as IPG CarMarker or PreScan is desirable.

You will liaise with two other research fellows working on scenario generation and simulation (these positions are also being advertised) as well as mapping of the environment and the road user to develop a digital twin of the ParkIT facilities for CAV behaviour for automated parking being developed at Horiba-MIRA.

This will be a fixed-term contract until 31st August 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience and is competitive. Interested candidates should include a CV and brief summary of research accomplishments with their application.
