The College

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is comprised of three departments – the Department of Social Sciences, the Department of Arabic Language, and the Department of Islamic World Studies -- that contribute to the University ‘s general education program as well as the College’s undergraduate and graduate programs that include: BA International Studies; BA Emirati Studies; MA Diplomacy and International Affairs and MA Judicial Studies.

The Opportunity

As chief academic officer of the College, the Dean provides leadership to advance the educational and scholarly missions of programs in the College and fosters an inclusive environment that encourages an academic climate that is responsive, student-cantered, entrepreneurial and values diversity. The Dean is the principal spokesperson and advocate for the College and sits on the Academic and Administrative Councils to formulate and implement University policies and strategic plans. The Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is responsible for the review of curricula and programs, staffing, budgeting, oversight of all operational functions of the college and alumni cultivation.Reporting to the Provost, the Dean functions as the university's primary representative of the College's disciplines to the external community.As Dean of the College, h/she must also be committed to collaborative,ethical leadership and skilled in human and financial resource management, as well as strategic planning.

Minimum Qualifications

• An earned Ph.D degree from an accredited institution in one of the disciplines in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible academic administrative experience at the level of Department Chair or Associate Dean.
• A record of scholarship, teaching and service in higher education appropriate to appointment within the Zayed University faculty at the rank of full professor.
• Experience in a learning outcomes-based,assessment-rich, educational institution.
• Evidence of leadership in the development of new programs that meet international standards and success in building teamwork and creating a shared vision.
• Ability to work with faculty from diverse cultures and nationalities and across disciplinary lines.
