ACCESS SERVICES ASSISTANT, MIT Libraries, to assist in all circulation, reserves, and service desk operations; be responsible for physical space management; and assist patrons with use of the library equipment and systems. Responsibilities include providing in-person service regarding library services, collections, and equipment at a variety of service points; interpreting policies and procedures and providing information about access to collections and space; opening/closing the library and reporting facilities and safety incidents/issues; and helping train staff and contributing to the development of documentation and training materials. Will also participate in other activities such as book searching, shelving, collecting statistics, handling financial transactions, sorting and delivering materials, and identifying opportunities for service improvements; perform some processing of materials; participate on committees/teams/groups/projects; and perform other duties as assigned. .
REQUIRED: at least six months’ direct/related experience that provided an understanding of library or service functions; experience using library catalogs; ability to use basic business software (e.g., MS Office, e-mail, calendar) and an interest in mastering new software/systems/technology; strong organizational, interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills; initiative; flexibility; ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse service team in a dynamic, busy, and diverse environment; ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines; good attendance record; ability to lift 40 lbs., move boxes, shelve materials, and push book trucks; and a tolerance for exposure to dust. Experience in an academic and/or research library; basic training or teaching experience; experience working with library-specific software in use at MIT (e.g., Aleph, Alma, ILLiad and/or RAPID ILL); and experience compiling, managing, manipulating, and presenting data (e.g., Excel, Access, Tableau) preferred. Salary: $18.45/hour minimum, with actual rate based on qualifications and experience.
The schedule for the position is Sunday through Thursday, 4:00 P.M. to midnight. The schedule may change over holiday and summer periods.
