Since the research associate experience is transitional to becoming PhD student, the research associate tries their best to acquire the varied skills necessary to advance their career with guidance from the advisor. These skills include, but are not limited to, the ability to present research plans and findings in a convincing style, both in oral and written modes of communication, the ability to understand research group management and supervision of others, and the ability to establish contacts and network with colleagues pursuing a similar research agenda.

Detailed Description            

Strategic Responsibilities

Participates in scientific research as a professionally responsible member of the project team, to work on a research and development project focused on the ankle exoskeleton design and control for rehabilitation and walking assistance with stiffness compensation;

Operational Responsibilities

  • To undertake research in the field of   navigation of mobile ground robot with on-board manipulator for indoor applications. In order to do this efficiently, the platform must be able to localise itself in its environment based on a spatial constructed map using a dynamic and active-pixel vision sensor and LIDARs. 
  • This project will complement the end-effectors developed on the robotic nutplate project and will accelerate the deployment of the nut-plate assembly functions on the leading edge of customer programs. The following tasks the candidate will be working on:
  • To develop 3D reconstruction of unstructured scenes algorithms 
  • Develop Robust localization using multi-senor data fusion (for DVS and on-board sensors) 
  • Develop path planning and collision avoidance using the reconstructed map 
  • Re-position the on-board manipulator with respect to its working envelope and platform motion 
  • Test the developed approach 
  • Prepare presentation of research outcomes and dissemination
  • Write monthly progress reports and publication 
  • To effectively collaborate with other researchers in the team

Required Qualifications

MSc in Engineering

Required Experience

Project experience on robotics, image processing, strong programming skills in Matlab/C++/Python 

Embedded system development on OMAPL138 (ARM+DSP), MobilleNets, ROS
