Overview:

Queen Mary is one of the largest colleges in the University of London and one of the UK's leading research-intensive institutions. QMUL is committed to world-class research and teaching across all its disciplines. Specifically, the Department of Biology is strategically recruiting to cement existing research themes which include bioinformatics, evolutionary genomics, development, food-web and animal ecology. The Department is part of the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, a large and expanding academic unit that provides a supportive and friendly environment and encourages interdisciplinary research.

The Department of Biology at Queen Mary University of London invites applications for a fixed-term Lectureship position in Bioinformatics to provide sabbatical teaching cover. The successful applicant should hold a PhD in Biological Science (or equivalent) and have experience teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level, with relevant expertise in genomics, statistics and coding relevant, preferably in the context of evolutionary biology. The Lecturer will be based in the Department of Biology, part of the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences.

The school has made major investments in infrastructure offering state-of-the-art high performance computing systems. We have strong links with other Schools within the Faculty and other organizations. Particularly relevant are the Blizard Institute, the Queen Mary’s Life Sciences, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and The Institution of Zoology. The School is also involved in an exciting joint venture with Nanchang University, including staff with UK-based research in evolutionary genetics and molecular evolution. The school contributes to local and national initiatives, such as the Alan Turing Institute (the National Institute for Data Science & Artificial Intelligence).

The academic post is full time for six-months starting 01 September 2019. The annual salary will be in the range of £41,682 - £51,899. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and USS pension scheme.
