Surrey Business School (SBS): SBS is an internationally recognised centre for management research and teaching. The school is accredited by AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and by AMBA (the Association of MBAs). With a strong Senior Management Team led by the Dean, Professor Ansgar Richter, SBS is ambitious in building a world-class interdisciplinary business school where innovative thinking is accelerated into action. The school’s particular strengths are in digital innovation and technological transformation, international trade and investment, leadership and organizational psychology, sustainability and corporate governance. Based in Guildford just outside of London, the University of Surrey is an outstanding international University with an enterprising spirit.

SBS is a mid-sized business school with over 100 academic staff members from around the globe, and a highly cohesive and collegial atmosphere. The school is growing strongly, both in terms of our size, and in terms of the quality and impact of our work. Specifically, SBS puts a heavy emphasis on research excellence. Staff have joined us from prestigious universities and business schools worldwide, with recent appointments including individuals who earned their PhD at institutions such as Harvard, MIT, Chicago, LSE, and elsewhere.

SBS runs a full range of programmes including undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA programmes, as well as a PhD programme. These programmes are renowned for their quality in terms of intellectual rigor, student experience, and employability. SBS is becoming increasingly active in executive education (both open-enrolment and tailor-made programmes). Through our Business Insights Lab, the school works closely with companies and other stakeholders. SBS has strong links with many technology-oriented start-ups and established firms in London, Surrey, and the South-East of England in general. For further information, please visit the SBS website.

The Department of Marketing and Retail Management(M&R): Our Department has core research strengths in retail marketing and distribution management, service marketing and management as well as consumer and shopper behaviour. Please visit the M&R website for more information and details on our research and teaching foci. To get a feel for the team and our activities please read our most recent M&R magazine.

Our staff publish in leading journals in our fields such as the Journal of Retailing, the Journal of Service Research, the Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, the European Journal of Operational Research, the Journal of Economic Geography, Environment and Planning A, Business History, the Journal of Product Innovation Management and the Journal of Experimental Psychology. The Department’s research increasingly considers the links between digital and physical marketing channels, and we are looking to expand this emphasis. M&R is led by Professor Christoph Teller and includes a healthy mix of research active faculty and practitioner teaching fellows, the latter bringing a wealth of business experience. As a team, we have grown strongly in recent years, and will continue to do so in future, with further appointments already in plan.

We seek to appoint a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) ideally with  particular emphasis on digital retail and services marketing to join our team. We are looking for strongly research-active academics. Lecturers should show clear evidence of their capacity to publish research on marketing and sector-specific (services and retail) issues in top-tier journals. You would also contribute to developing the research agenda of M&R, to participate in grant applications and cooperate with companies and other external stakeholders. In your teaching, you are expected to emphasise the quality of the student experience.

We will ensure that your teaching load is such as to provide you with sufficient time for research. There will be ample opportunities for you to become active in business engagement and executive education.

This is a full-time position. Conditions and compensation will be at internationally competitive standards and be commensurate with the appointees’ experience.

If you are interested in learning more about this position, please contact Professor Christoph Teller (c.teller@surrey.ac.uk).
