Applications are invited for this full-time post delivering financial partnering advice to one or more of the University’s business units, including influencing business decisions and contributing to the direction and delivery of the Business Unit strategy.  Supporting and reporting to the Professional Services Finance Manager Team Leader, the role involves overseeing budget management within the relevant Business Units and providing management information and advice on projects, business cases, and financial policies and processes.

The University has gross income of £664m per annum with an operating surplus of £25m. As a not-for-profit organisation, all of the income we generate is redirected into providing high quality teaching for our students and the delivery of our world-class research. The University is organised into five Academic Faculties who deliver this teaching and research (Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Engineering and Medicine & Health Science) and Professional Service Departments who provide the support and infrastructure to enable it (Finance & Infrastructure, Registrars, Student Services, Campaign & Alumni Relations and HR).

As one of our Assistant Finance Managers, you would be responsible for providing finance business partnering support to one of these Business Units, with a typical operating cost base ranging from £5m to £20m.  

Working for the Professional Services Finance Manager Team Leader, you will:

  • Ensure effective financial management, including preparation of budgets, forecasts and management accounts 
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and successful performance of the Business Unit across a range of key performance indicators
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, and meet internal and external reporting requirements
  • Provide information and advice to support organisational change, and proactively identify opportunities for efficiency savings
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of business process improvements

The role will based on one of our Nottingham based campuses, with some travel between our other Nottingham campuses being required.

You will be CCAB qualified (or equivalent) or have experience in a similar or relevant role and have experience of devolved budgeting and complex reporting in large organisations. You will possess excellent communication skills, an ability to understand and present complex data quickly, and good report-writing skills. Interpersonal, IT, negotiation and organisational skills are essential along with the ability to influence and deliver change.

This role is offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours) however part time applications are also welcomed with a minimum of 29 hours. Please specify on your application your preferred hours. Job share arrangements may also be considered.
