VR developer for ambitious learning technology project

Roskilde University (RUC) is researching and implementing Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR & AR) for science learning and is looking for a full-time VR/Unity developer from 1 October 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is limited to a period of 1 year. With this position, you have the opportunity to be part of an ambitious project that is pushing the limits of what learning with VR/AR is by designing and testing embodied, enactive and immersive simulation interfaces for science learning.

Responsibilities and tasks

The Centre for Virtual Learning Technologies at RUC is conducting a project on “Virtual Learning Technologies in Science Education”. A major part of this project is to design and develop VR and AR-based science learning experiences for undergraduate students. You will be responsible for the development of highly interactive and manipulative VR-AR simulations of phenomena and concepts in science to support learning and teaching. You will be working closely with a cognitive/learning scientist, and a team of natural science faculty, to develop these simulations.  You will have access to collaborating with the wider VR and software development community at RUC: the VR Lab (Flexible Lab), FabLab and RUC Digital. Further, you will also have opportunities to gain experience and insights into some cutting edge research at the intersection of cognitive science, human-computer interface, educational technology, and neuroscience.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Master degree or equivalent in Computer Science.

Qualifications within the following areas are required:

  • Interest and experience with VR or AR programming
  • Skilled in software development (C#)
  • Experience with Unity3D as a development environment for VR and or AR
  • Willingness to experiment, play and push the limits of what is possible with VR, AR and linked devices, e.g. eye tracking, Hololens, Kinect, LeapMotion, Galvanic Skin Response, etc.
  • Fluency in English

 The ideal candidate should possess good communication and collaboration skills.

Terms of employment
The position is full-time 37 hours per week including lunch break. The hours are flexible. The position is limited for a period of 1 year. The employment and salary are decided in accordance with the relevant collective agreement.   
The position is organizationally situated in RUC Digital. You will refer to Galina Ianchina, Deputy Director of RUC Digital.
