The University of Bristol, through its Division of Research and Enterprise Development (RED), is seeking to appoint the Head of Engine Shed to bring an entrepreneurial and purpose-led focus to the operation and growth of the University of Bristol’s Engine-Shed.

The role of the post holder is multi-faceted with a focus on strong leadership, networking and partnership development and project management in a commercial environment. The post holder, who also acts as the CEO of the Science Research Foundation (SRF), is responsible for curating the physical space and developing activities that allows Engine-Shed to add value to the University’s Research and Enterprise Strategies, SETsquared’s business incubation and accelerator services, and where possible, the requirements of other stakeholders.

As such, it is essential that the post holder can build and maintain professional relationships both internally and externally articulating the compelling case for Engine Shed activities.

The outcome of success indicators for the role include:

  • Integration of Engine Shed within the broad enterprise activities of the University, more specifically the new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus;
  • Ongoing relationships with key public sector partners, notably but not exclusively Bristol City Council and WECA – as a soft-landing space for inward investment and business incubation;
  • The range, scale and scope of emergent and developing new ventures/enterprises incubated and supported through Engine Shed;
  • Successful development of the expansion of Engine Shed into new spaces.

It is strongly recommended that Applicants contact the Executive Assistant to pa-red@bristol.ac.uk to arrange an informal discussion.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
