The School of Physics at the University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Lecturer whose primary role will be to deliver undergraduate teaching within the School, and to undertake pedagogic research. This full time, open-ended post with a well-defined career pathway, is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of nationally leading practices for teaching, learning and assessment.

The School of Physics is strongly committed to excellence in teaching and student support. You will be involved in a range of undergraduate teaching activities in the School, including small group tutorials, lectures, workshops, and support classes using a range of effective approaches. Teaching will primarily be on units prepared by other members of staff, but there may be some opportunity to contribute to the preparation and development of units. You will set and mark coursework, examinations and other assessment tasks.

As the postholder you will have excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills. You will demonstrate awareness of the academic and needs of undergraduate students. You will provide effective pastoral support to students, referring them on for further help and/or guidance as necessary, in conjunction with the student support and wellbeing teams.

An important part of your role will be to develop an awareness of pedagogical research, engage in some research relating to this, and to share innovative and effective teaching practices with colleagues as a member of the Physics Education Group.

Applicants should hold a good honours degree in Physics and a PhD in Physics (or other relevant subjects), and have significant experience of teaching in higher education.

Both the School and University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment as set out in our equality, diversity and inclusions pages.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities, especially from women and other groups currently under-represented in academic posts.
