Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Tropical Weathering and Cenozoic Climate in the Department of Earth Sciences (Ref.:496987), to commence as soon as possible for two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Earth System Sciences, or related fields, with specific experience in:
- transition metal isotope geochemistry;
- field sampling;
- Earth system modeling; and
- performance computing. They should also have a research track record including publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals as lead author, and demonstrated interpersonal skills. Field experience in developing countries is considered an asset. Applicants with an interest in developing and setting up new isotope systems and Earth System models are particularly encouraged to apply.
The appointee will join the Earth System Science labs of Dr. Ryan McKenzie and Dr. Sean Crowe at the University of Hong Kong. He/She will be responsible for leading field campaigns including relevant permitting, setting up and conducting measurements of transition metal isotope systems, and working with Earth System Models, but otherwise have wide latitude to define his/her own topics of research. The appointee will also be mentored in the supervision of graduate students (M.Phil., Ph.D.) and participate in grant-writing to secure additional funding. Opportunities will also be given to participate in international conferences and other forms of professional development.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
