The opportunity

The Australian Institute for Innovative Materials(AIIM) is the flagship research institute at the University of Wollongong with a focus on multidisciplinary materials science fundamental and applied research. The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science has awarded a grant to AIIM to research and develop a fully battery powered, heavy duty vehicle for underground coal mining. The project involves development of major components of a fully operational vehicle for use in this challenging work environment. We are seeking PhD students to join this research project.

The research will be undertaken, on a full time basis, at the AIIM facility at the Innovation Campus in Wollongong, New South Wales. https://aiim.uow.edu.au/index.html

Remuneration

The 2019 Research Training Program (RTP) living allowance stipend is AUD $27,596 per annum (indexed annually), tax free for three years and is offered as part of this PhD opportunity.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold relevant post graduate and/or Bachelor qualifications in Engineering majoring in electrical, electronics, power electronics or equivalent major. Skill in the use of software such as C/C++, Python, Java and Matlab would be well regarded. Ability to work in a team and good written and oral communication skills are essential. The successful candidates are expected to conduct original research independently.
