Research Data Analyst
The Quertermous laboratory, in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a PhD level or experienced MS level computational scientist. The overall goal of the laboratory is to use modern genetic and genomic tools to better assess disease risk and inform the development of new therapeutic approaches to cardiovascular diseases. Extensive next-gen sequencing projects to annotate the human genome are underway in the lab, using genome-wide tools such as bulk ATACseq, single cell RNA sequencing and ATACseq, mapping of regulatory QTLs for molecular phenotypes such as chromatin accessibility and chromatin looping. Our lab is uniquely positioned to correlate our discovery of genomic regulators with downstream mechanisms and disease altered phenotypes in mouse models, producing next level data to enhance the millions of sequences already available. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop new bioinformatic methods that will be verified in the wet lab and animal models. We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our laboratory to perform technology-driven research in a highly dynamic and exciting environment.
A successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the cardiovascular system and experience in analyzing large NGS datasets. We are a highly collaborative lab with close ties to the Departments of Genetics, Pathology, and Biomedical Data Sciences and are looking for a candidate who can work independently and also be able to collaborate with diverse groups. S/he will have the opportunity to learn and apply a wide set of molecular biology and genomics techniques, develop novel human genetic and genomics sequence-based technologies, and apply them to the study of human disease. There will be opportunities for development of computational skills, such as advanced high performance computation as a part of the role. This position offers a rich opportunity to engage in and publish research at the frontier of biotech fields related to health and medicine, and will prepare the candidate for the next stage of their career, either in academia or industry.
- Employ new and existing tools to interpret, analyze, and visualize multivariate relationships in data.
- Create databases and reports, develop algorithms and statistical models, and perform statistical analyses appropriate to data and reporting requirements.
- Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and determine root cause for data problems from input errors or inadequate field edits, and suggest possible solutions.
- Develop reports, charts, graphs and tables for use by investigators and for publication and presentation.
- Analyze data processes in documentation.
- Collaborate with faculty and research staff on data collection and analysis methods.
- Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.

- Expertise in bioinformatics and computational genomics.
- Proficiency with high performance computing and multiple programming languages (C, Python, R).
- Experience with high-throughput genome sequencing data (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, single cell sequencing methodologies.
- Experience with handling high order datasets, database management.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.
- Strong writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload.
- Sitting in place at computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding/dexterity.
- Occasionally use a telephone.
- Rarely writing by hand.
