Data Analyst - Public Health Research Center (Fixed-Term for 2 Years)

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Data Analyst to join the Public Health Research Center (PHRC).

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is confronting major public health challenges in tobacco use, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. These factors have complex co-determinants in human genetic susceptibility and environmental conditions, ranging potentially from the built environment to the human microbial milieu (microbiome). The mission of the NYU Abu Dhabi PHRC is to improve the health of the population in Abu Dhabi through research.

The Data Analyst will primarily focus on the the UAE Healthy Future Study: a large cohort study in the UAE aimed at recruiting 20,000 Emirati National adults to study health outcomes related to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. This position requires working with large amounts of data and providing data management, manipulation and analysis expertise and support to the PHRC team and investigators. This position will initially be for two years, renewable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Entry, organization and quality management of large datasets
  • Design and perform data import, export, updates and quality control procedures as related to data in the PHRC databases
  • Manage and maintain all PHRC data, metadata and databases
  • Organize the data security, data audits and access protocols
  • Creation of quality manuals and  catalogs of data
  • Assist in management of PHRC data analysis and statistics
  • Carry out data analytics, statistics and mining
  • Write quality control reports and assist with production of scientific papers
  • Perform any other data management or statistical tasks deemed necessary by the Director for completion of projects
  • Developing web-based applications/database interfaces including online questionnaires

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • BSc in Computer Science or related field + 3 years of experience

Preferred Education:

  • MSc in Computer Science or related field or higher

Required Experience:

  • Experience working with data science programming languages like Python, R and C++
  • Experience in managing and handling and large research data sets and big data
  • Experience in managing data life cycle
  • Working experience in database development and management
  • Demonstrated strong collaboration and organizational skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in Machine Learning, NLP and AI
  • Experience in data visualization, database administration, genomic datasets
  • Experience in clinical research or biobank environment
