To support research activities in silicon photonics ultra-high bandwidth optical transceivers.
To provide high quality research support and undertake internationally competitive research aimed at publication thereby contributing to the academic and research mission of the University.
Since the Postdoctoral experience is transitional to becoming an independent researcher or faculty member, the Postdoctoral tries their best to acquire the varied skills necessary to advance their career with guidance from the advisor. These skills include, but are not limited to, the ability to present research plans and findings in a convincing style, both in oral and written modes of communication, the ability to understand research group management and supervision of others, the ability to establish contacts and network with colleagues pursuing a similar research agenda, the ability to organize and teach a class or a course if more inclined towards a teaching career.
Identify key areas to attract research funding to KU. Support in research proposal drafting.
Assist in project planning and reporting; milestone tracking; literature review and continuous updating; development of silicon photonics device and system models.
Assist in student supervision and training, passing knowledge to younger students/researchers, working within a healthy team environment.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Telecom Engineering, Physics or equivalent
Research experience in Integrated Photonics at the level of design, or fabrication or characterization of photonics components or systems.
The Semiconductor Research Corporation sponsored Center of Excellency in Silicon Photonics (CEIPh) at Khalifa University is a unique research center in the region that combines the accumulated expertise in the areas of photonics and semiconductor devices. The center aims at the development of ultra-high bandwidth optical transceivers integrated in GlobalFoundries advanced CMOS sub 90-nm nodes. Through the center, local students are exposed and trained to key areas of research in semiconductor devices and systems.
The Center is looking for suitable candidates with a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Telecom Engineering or Physics, to work on the simulation of active photonics components in group IV platforms, modeling their time and frequency domain response at system level. Sound working knowledge of MATLAB/Python, Lumerical, COMSOL, Cadence and TCAD Sentaurus is required as well as experimental lab experience with RF signals and optical modulators with data rates above 10 Gbit/s.
