The University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint a Senior Student Services Officer to be based at our Burnley Campus to provide general student support and specialist disability, wellbeing and mental health advice/referral for students, including those with complex needs. The post holder will manage The Burnley and provide comprehensive international student support, working in collaboration with specialist colleagues in Preston.
The successful applicants will be required to supervise and co-ordinate staff in the Burnley team, understanding the impact the service has on all UCLan's customers and ensuring the team provide high quality support and advice on all matters relating to student study and support. To co-ordinate team workloads to ensure routine and non-routine issues assigned both within and outside the team are updated and resolved. To develop, coach and mentor colleagues and undertake appraisals.
The successful applicant will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) with a relevant professional qualification in the field of advice and guidance, mental health or counselling.
The applicant will also need significant experience of managing caseloads, where the nature of the work can be rapid and unpredictable; responding to urgent support needs as well as planned activities through the Fitness to Study/Practice procedures. Whilst the role is predominantly required for the standard working week, some group sessions may be conducted in the evening and some on-call work may be required.
Joining our friendly team within Student Support and Wellbeing, the successful applicant will have the ability to establish relationships with specialists from our, wellbeing, disability, student finance, mental health and counselling teams. They will be excellent communicators who can work across boundaries to ensure students receive the support they need and will show a good understanding of diversity and inclusion issues.
Excellent prioritisation, time management and caseload management skills are required to work effectively on an individual basis. Emotional resilience to work calmly under pressure is essential and the successful applicant will have the ability to recognise their own limitations and seek additional support where necessary.
