Job description

Further your career with Edinburgh Napier University

Edinburgh Napier University is a forward thinking institution home to forward-thinking people, inspired by the world around them. We have an exciting opportunity for a Diversity and Inclusion Officer to join us to work in full partnership with us and external stakeholders as part of the City Region Deal. The role is initially for 2 years with opportunities to extend beyond this period, subject to a 2 year review point of the HCI and DDI Skills Gateways funded by Scottish government.

The role

The Diversity and Inclusion Officer will sit within the HCI (Housing, Construction & Infrastructure) Skills Gateway supporting inclusion, diversity and equality across the construction, engineering and
data driven technology sectors in south east Scotland.

This exciting new role will lead the diversity and inclusion activities of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Regional Deal focused on the HCI (Construction) and DDI (Data-Driven) Skills Gateways programmes. Both gateways are funded by the Scottish government within the City Region Deal Integrated Regional Employment Skills program (IRES).

A key focus of the role is to design and deliver training and knowledge exchange events in the region area to educators and employers across the construction, engineering and data-driven technology sectors; with a focus on Women, Minority Ethnic Communities and disabled Peoples' under-representation in these sectors.

The role will be based in central Edinburgh and involve two days at Edinburgh Napier University (HCI), two days at University of Edinburgh (DDI) and one day with Equate Scotland (located in Napier's Craiglockhart Campus).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a candidate to show extensive knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion aspects and a background of working with STEM related industry sectors. Someone comfortable with building and maintaining relationships, with excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

There will be an element of travel in this role as you would be operating across the Lothians and South East Scotland so a full, clean driving license and vehicle is essential to the role - mileage will be paid.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Extensive knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion aspects
  • Proven ability in design and delivery of high quality training and presentations
  • Experience of working with STEM related industry sectors.
  • Demonstrable experience of ability to establish and manage positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-stakeholder team
