DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Hydraulic Engineering (Ref. 19062702)

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering enjoys a high reputation in conducting application-oriented research and has well established connections with industry partners and government agencies in Hong Kong. It offers academic programmes at various levels. In addition to PhD and MSc programmes, the Department currently offers 3 undergraduate programmes, namely BEng(Hons) in Civil Engineering, BEng(Hons) in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development and BSc(Hons) in Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health, with a new BEng(Hons) in Sustainable Structural and Fire Engineering programme to be launched in 2019/20. The Department currently has about 44 faculty members and 38 technical and administrative personnel, and is committed to international standards of excellence in teaching and research. The appointee will be required to (a) teach relevant undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, such as Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics and Hydrology, and Drainage Engineering; (b) supervise student projects and theses; (c) initiate, lead and participate in research activities; and (d) undertake relevant administrative duties, including programme leadership, curriculum development, programme validation and accreditation, etc.

Applicants should (a) have a PhD degree in Hydraulic Engineering or related disciplines; (b) have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; (c) have a good record of research, publications and scholarship; (d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills and have good interpersonal skills; and (e) possess research interest in, but not limited to, one or more of the following areas: (i) Hydraulic Engineering; (ii) Environmental Fluid Mechanics; (iii) Coastal Engineering and Coastal Resilience; and (iv) Hydroinformatics.   Preference will be given to those with a good undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or Hydraulic Engineering.  Relevant professional qualifications and work experience as a civil engineer or hydraulic engineer will be an asset.  Applicants for appointment at Professor or Associate Professor level should have substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience and an excellent record of relevant academic and/or research achievement.  Applicants with less experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant Professor.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.  An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor and Professor levels.
