About the position

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) announces an Associate Professorship in Health Sciences (Audiology) as a permanent post.

This is a 100% post and is funded by The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Together with the department's other academic staff, the person holding the post is responsible for teaching, supervision of students, and research, and academic development in Audiology, and teaching in other study programs on relevant topics for audiology.
  • It is expected that the successful candidate develops and pursues research of relevance for audiology, in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • The position also includes administrative duties.

Qualification requirements

The position of Associate Professor requires university education at doctoral level in audiology, hearing science, speech & hearing science or a related field or competence at a corresponding level documented by academic work of the same scope and quality. 

Emphasis will be placed on ability and experience in initiating and leading research and development of the field of area. Strong emphasis will be placed on publication of research results in recognized international journals within the subject area. Particular focus is placed on academic work during the past five years, exclusive statutory leave (depending on the disciplinary tradition).

Other requirements:

Advanced knowledge in audiology related to psychoacoustics, various audiological assessment techniques and technical audiology is required. We seek for candidates who have a strong academic record, have an active research portefolio within audiology, and have a good academic standing and international network.

The evaluation will be based on documented material related to teaching, including qualifications in educational theory and practice, research skills, and other pedagogical background. Quality and breadth will be evaluated. Emphasis will also be placed on personal attitude.

Educational qualifications and experiences will be emphasized. Applicants with good teaching experience at University level will be preferred. Quality and breadth in teaching will be considered. The successful candidate must have prior experience with supervision of students’ theses / research projects at University level.

Those who do not have formal qualifications in teaching at university level and who cannot provide documentation of equivalent qualifications must complete an approved pedagogical development programme within two years of appointment.

It is a prerequisite that within three years of appointment, new employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language can demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three in the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

Personal characteristics

It is essential that the person appointed have good collaborative skills, leadership experience and the ability to work across traditional academic boundaries. Emphasis will also be placed on communicative skills, as well as personal suitability.

Salary and conditions

The gross salary for the position of associate professor code 1011 is normally from NOK 565 000 - 695 000 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The person appointed must live in a location enabling him/her to be present at and available to the institution.

About the application

  • Details of the projects you have managed, with information about funding, duration and size
  • Information about public dissemination activities
  • Other documents which the applicant finds relevant
  • Documentation of excellent proficiency in oral and written English language 

Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to identify your contribution to joint works, you must attach a brief description of your participation.

When the application deadline has passed an external appointments panel will evaluate the applications. The most suitable applicants will be invited to interview and to deliver a lecture to undergraduate students.
