About the position

The Department of Teacher Education is announcing a full-time position as post-doctoral fellow. The appointment is for a term of three years, including one year of teaching. This is a fixed-term position with the primary objective of qualifying for work in top academic posts. The position represents an excellent opportunity for an individual to develop his/her career and to contribute to the further development of the field.

The position is linked to the research project Unequal Childhood: Children and young adults at risk of social exclusion in three Nordic cities, which focuses on identifying social and institutional mechanisms that helps maintain social divisions in school as an organization, as well as to develop new theoretical frameworks to describe social inequality in education.

The post-doctoral fellow will work with cases within the ongoing project. The overall thematic areas of the project is children's lifeworld, welfare and integration at Nordic schools with a particular focus on social inclusion and exclusion, risk of marginalization and organization of welfare institutions.

We seek a post-doctor who has good qualifications in qualitative and quantitative methodology as well as theoretical knowledge related to the school as an institution and to social inequality.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Participate in implementation and reporting of projects
  • Teaching and supervision within the Department of Teacher Education
  • Contribute to the development of new perspectives on school, organization and inequality
  • Administrative tasks related to own project
  • Ensure professional responsibility with the other academic staff members of the academic community
  • Contributions in relevant research groups

Qualification requirements:

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in relevant subject area or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required. Applicants without a completed PhD may be considered for the position if it can be documented that the dissertation is submitted and under review.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

Other qualifications:

  • Language requirements – Scandinavian or English
  • Documented skills in qualitative and quantitative methodology
  • In-depth knowledge of school, organization and social inequality
  • Experience with independent research work

  • Ability to cooperate in an interdisciplinary field
  • Motivation to contribute to a good working environment

We offer

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years with a teaching duty of one year.  

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
