This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with approximately 70 academic staff and 45 postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1000 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students. Circa 40 administrative and technical staff support the staff and students. The staff and student body are international in make-up.
About the role
The School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS) are seeking to develop and strengthen their internationally regarded engineering research activity as part of the School’s on-going investment in research excellence.
We currently seek applicants with research interests that will enhance and complement our existing strengths. Applicants with research interests in the areas of engineering solid mechanics, energy systems and thermo-fluids engineering are particularly encouraged. The successful applicant will have a PhD in Engineering related to solid mechanics or energy systems or thermo-fluids engineering and / or relevant professional qualification and / or equivalent professional experience as well as a proven track record in refereed journal publications.
A commitment to high quality education is also essential to support our thriving undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes. We are looking in particular for candidates with experience in developing and supervising chemical engineering group design projects.
The School has access to high performance computing as well as state-of-the-art experimental facilities incorporated within laboratories for Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Electro-hydrodynamics, Aeronautical Engineering and Thermo-fluids.

The post is a full time, permanent post with salary range £54,853 to £61,311. A generous academic support package will be available. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, interest-free season ticket and pension scheme.
