The University of Cape Town’s Centre for Theatre, Dance & Performance Studies (CTDPS) is a dynamic site for the study of contemporary performance practice in Africa.

We seek to fill the following positions:

  • 1 Full-time Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Theatre (Theatre-making and Directing)
  • 1 Full-time Lecturer in Dance (Contemporary Dance)

Requirements:

For Senior Lecturer:

  • An appropriate postgraduate qualification.
  • A commitment to and experience of research (inclusive of creative works) and postgraduate supervision in contemporary performance practice.
  • Experience of teaching both academic and practical aspects of performance at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience in teaching Directing and Theatre-making at tertiary level. An ability to teach Acting would be an advantage.

For Lecturer:

  • An appropriate postgraduate qualification.
  • A commitment to and experience of research (inclusive of creative works) and a commitment to postgraduate supervision in contemporary performance practice.
  • A demonstrated ability to teach both academic and practical aspects of performance at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience and innovation in creating and teaching Contemporary Dance. An ability to teach African Dance and/or Classical Ballet and/or Choreography would be an advantage.

Advantageous

  • Professional experience in Contemporary Dance or Theatre production.
  • A commitment to interdisciplinarity in Contemporary Performance.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, implementing, coordinating and teaching both theory and practice across all 4 undergraduate years.
  • Supervising postgraduate studies.
  • Presenting sustained research (inclusive of creative works).
  • Administrative and leadership responsibilities commensurate with the level of appointment.

  • Lecturer:                                 R 683 358
  • Senior Lecturer:                   R 834 707
