College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences
The above full-time permanent post is available from 1 September [SG1] 2019.
Statistical science at Exeter, a core component of the Department of Mathematics, is renowned for developing and applying methodological research to some of today’s most important societal challenges, including climate change, weather forecasting, air quality, global health, and the spread of infectious disease. The University has recently been awarded funding for a Centre of Doctoral Training (CDT) in ‘Environmental Intelligence: Data Science and AI for Sustainable Futures’. This CDT will welcome over 50 fully funded PhD students in five cohorts, starting in September 2019 with the aim of exploiting the explosion in environmentally related data to provide meaningful and actionable insight together with the tools and evidence required for informed decision-making.
The University of Exeter offers outstanding opportunities for cross-disciplinary activity. Within the University, the Statistical Science group has established collaborations with Exeter Climate Systems, the Living Systems Institute, The European Centre for Environment & Human Health, The Environment and Sustainability Institute and the recently established Global Systems Institute and the Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Outside of the University, the group has strong links with external partners, both within the UK and internationally. Examples include the UK Met Office, the World Meteorological Organization, the World Health Organization, and leading financial organisations such as Willis Towers Watson. The University of Exeter is a member of the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
We are seeking to appoint a Professor in Statistical Science. Applicants will be internationally renowned for their methodological research with a strong track record of producing high quality publications and attracting research funding.
