About the position

The Bond University Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare (Previously known as CREBP) is a successful, multidisciplinary team established in June 2010 by Professor Paul Glasziou. Professor Glasziou is a leader in Evidence-Based practice working to improve health care by developing better communication between clinicians and researchers, and a clearer understanding of the causes of, and solutions to, gaps between research evidence and its application in practice.

We are offering a Research Fellow position in the Centre for Research Excellence in Minimising Antibiotic Resistance in the Community (CRE_MARC) within the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare Centre for Research in Evidence-Based Practice, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond University.

The successful candidate will assist programs of research, in improving antibiotic use in primary care under the direction from the Chief Investigator of the NHMRC funded CRE grant, Prof Chris Del Mar.  The position will provide research support for other related centre research, including doctoral students.

The main focus of this position is Stream 3) from the following projects within the CRE:

1. Community Antimicrobial Stewardship: implementation studies in Primary Healthcare Networks and Practice-Based Research Networks
2. Skin and soft tissue (SSTI) and urinary tract infections (UTIs): generating and synthesising evidence about benefits and harms of antimicrobials for SSTIs/UTIs, and developing interventions to improve appropriate use/prescribing of antibiotics
3. Residential Aged Care Facilities: tackling the problem of very high antibiotic use (e.g. identifying the reasons for overuse, enablers/barriers to design interventions to decrease inappropriate use)
4. Neglected questions in the area of antibiotic resistance: systematic reviews and primary studies to answer questions such as: which non-antimicrobial treatments are effective for SSTIs/UTIs; does the use of two antibiotics simultaneously result in lower antibiotic resistance than a single antibiotic; etc.

About the person:

Successful candidates will have a recent PhD in a related area – which might be in health sciences (medicine, allied health, psychology, or public health), and involve a mix of quantitative and qualitative work (e.g. systematic reviews, before and after studies, RCTs, qualitative interviews).

You will have a developing publication record in journals with high impact. The ability to conduct research activities under the guidance of the project leader is essential along with excellent communication skills with key stakeholder groups.

Laboratory work is NOT a component of this position.

The salary band for this position is Research Fellow $82,820 plus 9.5% superannuation. Salary packaging options are available.
