Applications are invited for an IT support position to work within the Centre of Particle Physics at Royal Holloway as part of the IT support team.

The post will involve day to day management and support of the IT resources of the Centre for Particle Physics. These systems form a mission-critical facility for the research and teaching work of the 55 staff and students of the Centre. They are also a vital part of our international collaboration and science and society activities. The role will primarily focus on the management of the central infrastructure of Linux-based file servers, network services, virtualised/containerised services and HPC/HTC clusters. The role also includes support of users’ desktops, laptops and other devices which run a mixture of Linux, Windows and Mac OSX. The role requires a service-oriented approach and is carried out in a small team under direction of experienced members of the research staff. The post holder will perform a wide range of duties including system management of servers and network services, software installation and maintenance, hardware maintenance, user support, liaison with external support contractors. Automating and documenting procedures is a key aspect of the role. Security is very important and the post holder will be expected to be proactive in monitoring and patching systems and educating users.

This is a full-time post, available immediately; a part-time appointment (at no less than 80%) could also be considered. The post is for an initial period of six months and may be extended depending on performance and available funding. Royal Holloway is one of the larger colleges of the University of London. This post is based in Egham where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.

Applicants should have, or be expecting to receive, a degree-level qualification in a science or engineering subject or equivalent relevant experience.
