About the role

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor Education and Student Experience is a senior academic leader within the University and reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic.

This position has responsibility, together with the DVC Academic, for supporting the continued development and implementation of the University's approach to education and the student experience, building on the Scientia Education Experience which emphasises Communities, Feedback and Dialogue, Inspiring Teachers, underpinned by Digital Support. The PVCE is responsible for the Scientia Education Experience in collaboration with other members of the senior leadership team, with an enduring emphasis on student learning and the student experience.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Drive the development and adoption of innovative practice in learning, teaching and assessment, with a particular focus on innovative digital enablement, to enhance student learning and the student experience, and make education more accessible to new communities of students.
  • Work in conjunction with the DVCA and Deans to ensure the University's portfolio of taught degree programs is intellectually rigorous, viable, and provides a range of opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of physical and digital educational infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement strategies and policies that will deliver consistent improvements in the quality of the student experience (academic and non-academic) the University provides for its students and their consequent educational and employment outcomes.
  • Develop, foster, promote and embed distinctive and effective approaches to work-integrated and research-integrated education within the University's undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, approaches which include maximising the benefit to the student learning experience of the University's research excellence.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A research doctorate with a significant record of both teaching and research together with an academic reputation of the highest quality
  • Successful leadership in a senior academic role in a large university including the proven capacity to provide effective leadership
  • Proven ability to create and maintain a collegial team-based learning approach in higher education in order to produce high quality services and stakeholder outcomes
  • Extensive experience in leading innovation in the learning and teaching area
  • Enthusiasm for educational opportunities, including those presented by digital innovations
  • A respect for and the ability to develop modes of education across different disciplines at UNSW, new modes of delivery and the role of international education, as well as the challenges currently facing undergraduate and postgraduate education
  • Develop, foster, promote and embed distinctive and effective approaches to work-integrated and research-integrated education within the University's undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, approaches which include maximising the benefit to the student learning experience of the University's research excellence.
