Job description

  • GBP 36,734 to GBP 41,056 per annum
  • Eligible for access to discretionary bonus scheme of up to 10%

Coventry University has seen huge global successes in recent years: Times Higher Education University of the Year 2015, The Good University Guides' Modern University of the Year 2016, and now the 12th best University in The Guardian University Guide 2018. We have also achieved the top accoladei n the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), published on the 22ndJune 2018 by the Higher Education Funding Council for England(HEFCE).

It hasn't stopped there. Coventry University has taking its next big step, this time into the world of online distance learning. Working with UK-basedF utureLearn, which has over eight million learners worldwide on its collaborative learning platform, the University has embarked on an ambitious online degree production programme. 50 online degreesover the next five years will deliver world-leading programmes, accessible to thousands of new distance learners across the globe.

The creation of supporting infrastructure within a new, dynamic and innovative business is pivotal in helping the University Group design and develop wholly online distance learning courses at both pace and scale. The 'Studio' is at the centre of this revolution and progressive in all it does, truly pushing the boundaries to develop a broad portfolio of degree courses with a distinct style and pedagogy. A challenge of equal transformation and reward for ambitious and determined learning design, media and project professionals, this is both a sector and UK first; a thrilling time to join a start-up unlike any other; an opportunity to shape the future of Higher Education.

This post is a great opportunity for an experienced Learning Designer to join a new business and growing team dedicated to designing and developing degree courses for online delivery. You might call yourself something different at the moment (e.g. Instructional Designer, Learning Technologist or Academic/Educational Developer) but as part of the learning design team within the new subsidiary you will be responsible for co-creating, with University academics, high-quality online degrees that are innovative, inspiring and enjoyable. These degrees will be accessible to thousands of new distance learners across the globe.

You will have experience of using your pedagogical, instructional design and educational technologies expertise to work with academics and digital media content producers to create visual storyboards that are the basis for designing and creating course activities, assessments and digital content. Part of your role will be to contribute to the establishment of mechanisms for building transformational and engaging student-centred learning experiences in a wholly online environment. This initiative is of significant strategic importance and will consequently have a great deal of visibility within the University.
