Overview:

The Centre for Commercial Law Studies is one of two departments that make up the School of Law, part of the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences.  Established in 1980, it has become one of the world’s leading academic institutions for the study of commercial law.  The primary objectives of the Centre are to conduct scholarly research of international excellence, to contribute to the shaping of public and commercial policy, and to provide teaching of the highest quality at post-graduate level.  CCLS covers the whole spectrum of commercial law, including arbitration, banking and finance, intellectual property, international trade, media and communications, shipping, insurance, regulation, ethics, and tax, and around 1200 students from some 80 countries study for masters and doctorate degrees.

CCLS has a team of approximately 40 Professional Service staff to support the Centre’s teaching and research priorities including a small team of staff to manage the Centre’s external relations, development and alumni activity.  The purpose of this post is to provide high level expertise and support for CCLS’s reputational and profile enhancement with the legal profession and beyond. The role holder will identify and develop new business and engagement opportunities with the aim of generating donations and other contributions to support CCLS’s teaching, co-curricular, research and enterprise activity. This will involve working closely with key stakeholders including the Advisory Council and specialist working groups, top legal firms, the wider business and legal community, and academics within CCLS to identify and facilitate relationships and manage opportunities for CCLS, ensuring that CCLS are utilizing these opportunities to best advantage.

The post holder will provide lead on the Centre’s development plans, manage the operation of the CCLS Advisory Council, develop working groups comprised of external members for new activities, and line manage the External Relations and Development Team and oversee their activity

This is a full time, permanent post. The starting salary will be in the range of £37,411 to £44,015 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
