About the School/Department:

The School of Biological Sciences is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. It is made up of three research disciplines, including Ecosystems Biology & Sustainability, Food Safety & Nutrition, and Microbes & Pathogen Biology. Most staff within the School are also members of the Institute for Global Food Security GRI: the Institute is ranked No 1 in the UK for research intensity in Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences (REF 2014).

The School aims to enhance the way we use technology in research, food security, microbiology, ecosystem biology, sustainability and many other related areas. The School prides itself on providing innovative teaching methods and a high-tech learning environment for our students and has been awarded the prestigious Athena SWAN Gold award in recognition of its work to support women in science.

About post:

Outline the key focus of the role We have a unique and exciting opportunity in an inter-regional setting for a Research Assistant to work on a multi-species marine telemetry and biologging project combining studies on flapper skate and basking shark around Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. As part of this ambitious project the Research Assistant within this team will help establish a series of small marine acoustic telemetry arrays and take a leading role in delivering a number of telemetry/biologging studies on both basking shark and flapper skate.

The post holder will provide specialist advice on issues to the Project Board and other partners as appropriate.

This post is full time for 41 months or until 31 December 2022 (whichever is sooner).

The successful candidate may be based at either our Belfast or Portaferry School sites.
