Role Summary 

The University of Lincoln seeks to appoint well-qualified and highly motivated Visual Communications Designs Contextual Studies Senior Lecturer to join the team responsible for delivering and managing the Lincoln School of Design’s across programmes Contextual Studies modules. The delivery of Contextual Studies (CS) is vital to our students’ understanding of their creative and design processes and thinking, as well as the cultural and professional context. The CS modules are delivered to ensure students bring together this knowledge and make it tangible and real for their studio work.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate they can enable students to translate and make meaningful links between Contextual Studies topics and their design studio practices and thinking. In addition, to foster in students an enquiring, rigorous, contextually-aware approach to both their practice and design studies. The educational emphasis is on developing critical creatives who are able to be enterprising professionals, and students will be connected by their focus on understanding on socially engaged contexts and collaborative approaches to working and developing their design practices. 

The posts require enthusiastic reliable team players and engaging confident teachers, who can contribute to the management of the CS modules in collaboration with the Programme Leaders and Year Leads. 

The ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate a proven ability to contribute to the university’s REF Profile, both in 2021 and beyond, at the agreed minimum standards. The candidates should have a demonstrable track record of research outputs and funding applications, and be able to present clear forward research plans for the next three years.
