Overview:

Applications are invited for the role of Health Economist/Analyst in the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health, Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. The Blizard Institute is the largest institute of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

With over 150 staff, trainees and students, the Centre is one of the leading primary care, public health and health services research centres in the country, ranked 5th out of 32 in the 2014 REF.  It hosts the Pragmatic Clinical Trials Unit (PCTU), which is at the forefront of methodological and applied evaluative health research.

The post holder will join a growing team of health economists, led by the Chair of Health Economics. S/he will develop a research portfolio in cardiovascular disease modelling and assessing interventions to prevent cardiovascular disease; other evaluative work could be considered. We are looking for a quantitative health economist/analyst to contribute to a portfolio of research and teaching and to develop applied and methodological research questions in the area of economic evaluation of health interventions, disease modelling and outcome measurement and valuation to inform health care decisions that lead to improvements in population health. A higher degree in (health) economics, statistics, mathematics or relevant subject (PhD/DPhil) or equivalent experience, good working knowledge of R and evidence of peer-reviewed publications are essential.

This post is full-time (although part-time applications will be also considered) and fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance. Starting salary will be in the range £37,411 to £44,015 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, a pension scheme and an interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
