Overview

Kurongkurl Katitjin Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research is a key part of Edith Cowan University’s commitment to Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their families and their communities.

Kurongkurl Katitjin supports University-wide activities and programs, as well as activities specific to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultures. This includes:

  • engaging closely with Indigenous people and communities;
  • assisting Indigenous students and staff to realise their full potential;
  • ensuring that individual differences and diversity are respected; and
  • contributing to Indigenous community development and sustainability through our students, staff and graduates.

The Role

Collaborating with the Research and Teaching Fellow, the Research Adviser plays a key part in further developing and growing Kurongkurl Katitjin’s capacity to conduct research with high impact.

This position manages and supports the completion of complex and detailed research on projects focusing on Aboriginal languages, performance and archives, ensuring that:

  • Research fieldwork is supported with suitable planning and logistical support, audio-visual documentation and data management;
  • Research results are communicated via high quality online and digital media outputs;
  • Research literature is thoroughly proof-read and edited and
  • Research ethics processes are followed as applicable.

Key Criteria

Applicants must possess the following experience/skills:

  • A tertiary qualification in communications, linguistics or related fields.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, particularly in University settings and with Aboriginal people.
  • Attention to detail and a proven ability to conduct and support research.
  • Skills in photography, film and audio recording, and the use of software including Microsoft Excel and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with maintaining schedules, writing reports and overseeing budgets.
  • Experience in providing logistical and event support. 

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are particularly encouraged to apply.

Benefits & Remuneration

This full time, fixed-term position attracts remuneration of $87,200 - $97,898 plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
