Position overview

The Australian National University (ANU) is delighted to offer an outstanding opportunity to a joint appointment in the study of Chinese Literature/Media in the School of Culture, History and Language (CHL) and the Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW).

Based in the nation’s capital, the ANU is one of the world’s foremost research universities. The ANU College of Asia & the Pacific – within which CIW operates – has a long-standing reputation for outstanding research expertise and global policy impact, hosting the largest collection of expertise on the Asia Pacific in the English-speaking world. For over 70 years, ANU Sinologists have pioneered new fields in China studies and led the world in understanding Chinese societies. China expertise at ANU is housed in several academic departments across the College and is brought together by the CIW, which reflects the University’s and the Australian government’s commitment to deepening Australia’s understanding of and engagement with China.

The ANU is seeking to make one appointment in Chinese Literature/Media. The successful candidate will be primarily appointed in School of Culture, History and Language (CHL) and will report to the Director of CHL. The successful candidate will also be automatically be jointly appointed to CIW.

The ANU seeks applications from candidates across career stages. Candidates for Level B appointments must have PhD in hand. More senior appointments have additional requirements as stated in the Position Descriptions linked below. The successful candidate will be an emerging or internationally recognised academic in Chinese Literature/Media and will bring commitment, new ideas and enthusiasm to the roles.

We seek applications from candidates pursuing innovative and empirically informed research agendas on Chinese Literature/Media. We are open as to methodological approach. Candidates should also be prepared to teach courses in Chinese Literature/Media in addition to appropriate disciplinary offerings.
