Job description

We have an opportunity for someone to join our School of Applied Sciences in a support role as a school purchasing officer.

The role

This role is office based, and has a 80/20 split over two main areas. The main part of the school purchasing officer role is holding responsibility for the purchasing of goods and services for the School of Applied Sciences. You will monitor and maintain adequate levels of general Lab consumables and office supplies, ensuring stock levels are maintained at all times; whilst managing the effective administration of all purchasing activities by ensuring all required documentation is received and collated in a timely manner, all invoices for goods received are processed appropriately, and that appropriate records of credit card transactions and authorisations are maintained.

When required you will assist the School Health and Safety Advisor in providing support to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety Processes e.g. assisting with Risk Assessments, safety inductions, incident reports and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and University Policies.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with excellent communication (oral and written) and IT skills, someone who is highly numerate and ideally has experience working in a finance environment, knowledge of the Agresso system would be advantageous.

A background in science would be desirable, with a working knowledge of laboratory storage safety e.g. storage of hazardous chemicals, gases and dry ice. Part of this job is the delivery of goods received to end users, so a degree of physical fitness is required to facilitate the movement of items with appropriate equipment.
