FINANCIAL ASSISTANT 2, Materials Science & Engineering (DMSE), to provide complex and diverse financial support--under direct supervision of DMSE’s senior financial administrator for the day-to-day operations of faculty labs.  Responsibilities will include performing financial activities for general, fund, and research accounts for faculty and their labs; monitoring and correcting account activity and expenditures for compliance with sponsor guidelines and approved budgets; reconciling account statements and salary expense reports in accordance with the financial review and control process; assisting with developing proposal budgets and preparing current and pending support; processing account closeouts including compliance audits; conducting quarterly review of F&A rates and monthly review of closing reports; participating in periodic in-person meetings with faculty and administrative assistants and in quarterly projection meetings with faculty and finance staff and assisting with executing the projection plans; serving as a resource for faculty, postdocs, and students on financial transactions; following office protocols with regard to classified information; and performing other administrative, financial, and clerical duties as necessary.  May provide backup support to financial staff during absences. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years of financial or accounting experience; excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; attention to detail and follow through; strong accounting skills; sound judgment when maintaining the confidentiality of classified information; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and university accounting and purchasing systems preferred; as is proficiency with MIT’s financial software, i.e., SAP and Cognos.
