Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral research assistant in Dr Amelle Zair group on ultrafast laser sciences and strong field physics. The group focuses on studies of the interaction of ultrashort laser pulses with matter to reach highnon-linear regime of interaction which enable to study ultrafast dynamic in atoms, molecules and engineered materials, from femtosecond to attosecond time scales. The group has several leaderships in experimental and theoretical study on filamentation and high harmonics generation process and their control; and count national and international key collaborations on the ultrafast laser sciences. We are pioneer of the QPI technique in attosecond physics and we were the first group developing high repetition rate laser for strong field physics applications in the UK, with laboratories all based on Ytterbium operating femtosecond laser systems.
Current projects in the group include the study of filamentation, HHG spectroscopy in molecules, HHG on solids and new-engineered materials and next generation of ultrashort and ultra-intense femtosecond laser (R&D).
We are seeking for a strong candidate in CPA femtosecond laser. Candidate must have a PhD in experimental physics with background on ultrafast laser or ultrafast science or related topics. Candidate must show a track record of original contributions to the scientific literature; a demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and work independently and fluency in written and spoken English.
The candidate must have expertise on at least one of the following techniques:
- CPA laser
- Ytterbium fibre LMA for amplification
- OPA and NOPA
- CEP stabilisation ( fast and slow loop)
- Few-cycle pulse production and characterisation.
The candidate should demonstrate a strong expertise in building amplified femtosecond laser and design architecture for ultrafast laser sciences.
The candidate could show additional skills in the following topics:
- Time resolved measurement
- Vacuum compatible technology
- Theoretical study of strong laser pulse propagation ( Kerr, HOKE, plasma etc ..)
- XUV-Xray detection
- THz source and characterisation
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to investigate femtosecond to attosecond phenomena in new material and contribute to leading research projects developed in Dr Amelle Zair’s group on ultrafast laser sciences including filamentation and attosecond physics.
The successful candidate will have opportunity to participate to international and national collaborations at large facilities and networks.
The post holder will be in charge of:
- Implementing the Yb CPA laser (being transfer to the new lab location)
- Developing further the Yb CPA laser architecture including study to higher average power, shorter pulses production, CEP and compatibility to OPA/OPCPA.
The post holder will participate to the two new research lines developed in the group:
- High repetition rate filamentation under complex field drivers.
- High repetition rate attosecond dynamics in new-engineered materials.
The post holder will have opportunity to provide adhoc occasional teaching.
