Do you wish to work at the cutting-edge of unmanned aerial vehicle design and control, on two Innovate UK industry linked projects? Do you have a passion for research into robots and autonomous systems? The University of Bristol has the ideal opportunity for you with two RA positions available on these projects.

The two positions are funded by two, two-year Innovate UK grants, “Prometheus - A reconfigurable robotic platform(s) with advanced sensing for confined spaces”, and “MIMRee – Multi-Platform Inspection Maintenance & Repair In Extreme Environment” held by Dr Tom Richardson, as part of the program “Robotics and AI: Inspect, Maintain and Repair in Extreme Environments”. The projects will be carried out by two consortiums including other universities (University of Manchester and Royal Holloway) and industry partners including Headlight AI, Thales UK, Plant Integrity Limited, Wootzano Limited, BladeBug Limited, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Callen Lenz and Network Rail.

You will have a research track record in robotics, control, autonomy, automation, navigation, design, or another relevant technical discipline, evidenced by publications and enriched with some experience of practical implementation. Successful candidates will ideally have experience of working with drones, and you’ll be joining a team with established expertise in drone technology and flight. The focus of these research roles is on the autonomy, design and testing of autonomous systems.

The posts are offered on a full-time basis for 1 year each, with prospect for extension, and the university offers flexible working and a very generous leave entitlement.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in shortly after the advert closes.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Tom Richardson ( thomas.richardson@bristol.ac.uk ).

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
