We are recruiting for a Specialist Tutor and Mentoring Team Leader to provide operational and strategic direction for the Specialist Tutoring and Mentoring Team.   The post holder will be responsible for ensuring a professional and consistently excellent tutoring and mentoring service, that empowers students to be independent learners.

The Specialist Tutoring and Mentoring Team is a newly formed team of professionally qualified Study Skills Tutors and Mentors.  The team provides individual study related tutoring support for students who have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) or are on the Autistic Spectrum (AS), and mentoring support for students who have a Mental Health Condition (MHC) or are on the Autistic Spectrum (AS). This support assists students to develop the academic and organisational skills to manage their course and workload effectively.

We are looking for someone with highly developed people management skills, and the ability and drive to lead and develop the team and its service offering. The postholder needs to have experience of delivering tutoring or mentoring to disabled students in Higher Education and will be expected to ensure the service remains compliant with the DSA-QAG Non-Medical Help Quality Assurance Framework and University expectations.

Candidates must have -

• current membership of a professional organisation specified by DSA-QAG as being suitable to provide support as part of the Disabled Students Allowances
• experience of working with SpLD / AS / MH students in an HE/FE environment on a one to one basis empowering them to become independent learners
• experience of leading people and line managing staff
• excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with senior colleagues to develop effective strategies that deliver a forward thinking approach to supporting disabled students
