EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, Alumni Association, to lead and manage Alumni Relations programs, including strategy development and program implementation in collaboration with AA colleagues, volunteers, and other offices throughout MIT.  Will manage a staff of thirty-one, including program directors and administrative and support staff members; set the strategic direction for engaging more than 138,000 alumni; understand the critical impact of alumni and donor relationships in advancing a leading research university; build credible, productive relationships with MIT alumni and friends, colleagues throughout the Institute, and others in senior leadership; motivate the staff to act as a collaborative team across the Association and MIT to deliver relevant, high-quality programming and services for alumni; and come to understand MIT’s distinctive culture and offer engagement points that draw on that culture.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred); ten years’ direct alumni relations, fund-raising, or volunteer leadership development experience in a nonprofit setting and four years’ supervising staff, setting goals, and managing performance and budgets; experience working closely with volunteers; excellent communication (writing, presentation, listening), interpersonal, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills; understanding of and experience with a wide variety of alumni engagement software platforms; ability to strategize general direction of systems and lead staff to efficient implementation;  demonstrated capacity for interacting effectively with potentially large benefactors and leading volunteers; proven record of accomplishment in a position requiring independent planning and efficient utilization of time and personnel resources; ability to successfully manage multifunctional or diverse program areas and staff.  Experience in a complex, research-oriented academic setting preferred.  Must be willing to travel.  Job #17596-13
