Learning Enhancement Center Specialist
The Library & Learning Commons seeks an incumbent for the position of Learning Enhancement Center Specialist to provide educational services and support to faculty and students in the Learning Commons related to English language learning, information literacy, and independent learning. To participate in planning and instruction in the operation of the Learning Commons (LC) in accordance with the University goals in general, and more specifically, with those goals which emphasize skills and knowledge for all students in the Academic Bridge Program.
Training, Development and Administration
Develops and implements training programs and orientation sessions to faculty and students that is aligned to the University strategic plan and vision
Actively participates in the information literacy program, including teaching, curriculum design (in both Arabic and English) and promoting basic information literacy for students using the LC
Collaborates with Career Services and Student Affairs personnel to recruit student workers
Provides Arabic instruction in the use of resources and materials to faculty and students
Develops and produces materials for students and faculty to support independent learning
Ensures maintenance and upkeep of LC resources and equipment
Shares responsibility for reference and circulation services within the LC
Maintains daily LC operations and performs tasks within established guidelines and procedures in an independent manner
Assists students and faculty with the selection of relevant materials for study and research
Participates in LC programming, committees, training, scheduling of classes, and special activities
Initiates procedures related to implementing LC activities and events
Maintains LC records, schedules, and daily statistics as required
Provide guidance in the use of new and current Arabic databases for faculty and students
Provide services during weekend hours and evenings
Any duties as assigned by supervisors
Must possess a bachelor’s degree in Education or related field from an accredited institution with a minimum of 4 years of experience in teaching students in a public or academic library setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with developing and implementing educational programs and activities
Effectiveness in formal and informal teaching
Experience in TEFL, library instruction and information literacy programming
Verbal and written fluency in Arabic & English
Experience with teaching students within the Middle East
International experience or familiarity with UAE culture
Experience in library instruction and information literacy programs
Master’s in Education will be an added advantage.
