ACCESS SERVICES ASSISTANT, MIT Libraries, to assist with circulation, reserves, and service desk operations; physical delivery between MIT Libraries; and physical space management. Responsibilities include providing in-person library services and collections at a variety of service points and delivering library materials via van to east and north campuses, including pick-up, sorting, delivery, check-in, and return of materials between units; interpreting policies and procedures for users, providing information about access to collections and space, opening/closing the library, and reporting facilities and safety incidents/issues; participating in book searching, shelving, collecting statistics, handling financial transactions, and identifying opportunities for service improvements; performing some processing of materials, working with staff to resolve problems/errors and maintain the physical condition of collections; helping with staff training and the development of documentation/training materials; participating on committees/teams/groups/projects; and performing other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED: at least six month’s direct/related experience that provides an understanding of library or service functions; experience with automated library systems and standard software (e.g., MS Office, e-mail, calendar), ability to generate reports and work with data, and a desire to master new software/systems/technology and assist others in their use; strong interpersonal, organizational, customer service, and communication skills; initiative; flexibility; ability to work independently, as part of a service team, and in collaboration with a diverse group of people; good attendance record; ability to lift 40 lbs., move boxes, shelve materials, and push book trucks; tolerance for exposure to dust; and a valid driver’s license, ability to operate a motor vehicle, and a good driving record.
