The Department of Electromechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Macau invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in the following disciplines: Robotics and Intelligent Systems. This position is intended to complement and strengthen existing departmental staff expertise. We are seeking candidate with a proven track record in scientific research, an innovative research vision, and a commitment to education.

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) is the oldest and one of the most vibrant faculties at the UM, dedicated to student-centric education and cutting-edge research in engineering and science. All of its bachelor’s degree programmes in engineering and computer science are accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and recognized worldwide. The university is among the top 1% in Essential Sciences Indicators (ESI) rankings in both Engineering and Computer Science. In the THE World University Rankings, the Engineering and Technology programme is ranked among the top 125 and the Computer Science programme among the top 200, arising from its status of a local community college in less than 10 years.

The Department of Electromechanical Engineering offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degree programmes. Currently, the Department has 12 academic staff and around 180 undergraduate students, 100 master students and 40 doctoral students. The curriculum emphasizes mechanical engineering (ME), while educating the students to take advantage of robotics, vehicles, and intelligent systems, fluid flow and heat transfer, advanced materials and manufacturing for practical applications in ME like smart building services, engineering systems management, transportation vehicles, robots and smart systems, etc. The programmes have extensive collaboration with other institutes around the world.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in areas related to robotics and intelligent systems;
  • Strong background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline and extensive research and teaching experience at the tertiary education level;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with specialties in the areas of multi-scale autonomous robots, multi/swarm mobile robots, biomedical robotics, human-robot interaction, robot vision and sensing/actuation, robotic control systems, and robotics for manufacturing and automation;
  • Good team player for participating in various aspects of the activities of the department, faculty, and university and serving the profession.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in January 2020.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP800,800 (approximately USD98,860) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
