The position is available in the research project Chronologicum Hibernicum - A Probabilistic Chrono-logical Framework for Dating Early Irish Language Developments and Literature (ChronHib), funded by a Con-soli-dator Grant from the European Research Council and led by Professor David Stifter. ChronHib aims at making progress in establishing a finely-tuned chronology of Early Irish language developments and literature, by closely studying and mapping linguistic change and variation in the literature from the period. We expect to make a significant contribution to the description and the understanding of the development of the Early Irish language. Work is carried out primarily within the discipline of historical linguistics, but other aspects of linguistics such as syntactic theory, sociolinguistics, and the philology of Early Irish texts play a role as well. In the second half of the project, a greater emphasis will be put on computational aspects of Old Irish linguistics.

The Post-doctoral researcher will work together with the project staff to develop statistical methods to model Early Irish language change, and to develop predictive methods to date texts on the basis of linguistic features. The nature of the material may require the researcher to develop and test new models and approaches.
