Position overview

The School of Culture, History and Language seeks to appoint a Lecturer, Korean Language (Level B) to convene the Korean language program at the ANU. Over the last ten years the Korean language program at ANU has enjoyed extraordinary growth. The student cohort is diverse, and includes complete beginners, background speakers and international students.

The successful candidate will bring a deep commitment to language teaching, community outreach and program building to further enhance the Korean language program. We seek a scholar and educator who will bring enthusiasm, expertise and intellectual distinction to our research and education profile, and have an active research and publication agenda in one or more of the following areas: teaching of Korean as a foreign language, linguistics, translation studies, Korean literature, or a related field.

The appointee will contribute to the School’s teaching programs in Korean Language and in their area of specialisation at all levels (Undergraduate, Honours, MA and PhD), and will recruit and supervise Honours, MA and PhD students. Experience in developing online materials is considered an asset.

The appointee will be expected to take on the role of Convener of Korean Language and should be active in professional service within ANU, and both nationally and internationally in their relevant discipline, as well as in the broader community.

This is a three (3) year position with the possibility of conversion to a continuing position, based on funding availability.

ANU has the widest range of research and teaching programs in languages in Australia. The School of Culture, History and Language (CHL) is the focus of research and teaching in Asian and Pacific humanities, social sciences and languages and seeks to build excellence in understanding and capability in engaging with the Asia and Pacific region. The key disciplines that are represented in the School are anthropology, archaeology, cultural studies, gender studies, literature and translation, history, linguistics, and languages, all contributing to the foundational knowledge of Asia and the Pacific.
