Principle Animal Technician

Salary: £23,334 to £27,830 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The University of Nottingham is one of the UK's leading research universities. This post offers the opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to the research programmes whilst expanding their experience in animal technology, working within both traditional and barrier facilities and with a range of species (including aquatics and farm animal species).
The successful candidates must be able to undertake the day to day organisation of an operational area of the animal facility and be responsible for the supervision, mentoring and training of a small team of the technical staff. An essential requirement will be to ensure liaison with licensees and the Named Persons thereby contributing to the essential culture of care and compliance within the facility. The ability to undertake a range of licensed experimental techniques, plus substantive experience of the care of rodents undergoing experimental procedures is essential. Experience of conducting aseptic surgical techniques and administration of anaesthesia in animals, plus related post-operative care would be desirable.
Candidates should hold the IAT Membership or the Level 3 Diploma in Laboratory Animal Science and Technology or an equivalent qualification. In addition candidates must either hold, or be willing to hold a Home Office Personal Licence.
