Research Assistant Professor in Chemistry (Ref. 19061110)

The Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology is a multi-disciplinary department in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with diversified specialties in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, biochemistry, nutrition and food science.  The Department’s research focus is in the interdisciplinary areas of chemistry, biology, nutrition and food science. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) conduct lectures, practical sessions and tutorials at taught master’s and undergraduate levels in Chemistry and/or related disciplines;

(b) supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students;

(c) establish a vigorous research programme at the cutting edge of chemical biology and drug discovery;

(d) contribute to departmental administration and the operations of the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery; and

(e) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a) have a PhD degree in the field of Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology or related disciplines;

(b) have relevant post-qualification experience in teaching and research;

(c) have a good publication record in peer-reviewed international journals; and

(d) be able to demonstrate evidence of effective classroom teaching skills.

Preference will be given to those with background of and/or expertise in drug design, and/or with successful track record in bidding research grants on a competitive basis.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

The remuneration package for the Research Assistant Professor post is the same as an Assistant Professor post.  A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Appointment for Research Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract for up to three years. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
