The laboratory of Dr. Natalie Torok at Stanford School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is seeking a Basic Life Research Scientist. We are seeking a very motivated, self-directed Research Scientist who will be expected to make original scientific contributions, develop novel protocols and procedures, and analyze results. Candidates with prior managerial experience will be highly considered. The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in collaborative work within Stanford and the Palo Alto VA, and application for awards and grants will be encouraged. This is a one-year fixed term position (may be renewed).

Our laboratory focuses on the mechanisms of liver fibrosis and stellate cell activation using in vitro and in vivo models of non-alcoholic and alcoholic steatohepatitis.  More specifically, we are interested in NADPH oxidases and dysregulation of redox pathways that precipitate stress signaling in steatohepatitis. Our ultimate goal is to translate our findings and develop novel therapeutic approaches that reverse fibrosis and improve patient outcomes.

Duties include:

• Participate in the development of innovative projects
• Overseeing and helping the work of post-docs, and students
• Helping with animal and safety protocols, regulatory paperwork
• Ordering reagents and supplies

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• PhD, or MD from a renowned institution
• At least 2 years of post-doc in a basic research lab, with publications (including first-author)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Expertise in molecular and cell biological techniques, good laboratory skills, critical thinking
• Experience with in vivo techniques is a plus
• Dedication to pursue basic/translational liver research
• The candidate must be technically rigorous, possess strong organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Being able to work independently but in collaboration with team members
• Experience in lab management and organization. Ability to multitask general lab responsibilities and multiple experiments/research projects.
