Term time, Fixed Term Contract

The School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Royal Holloway University of London seeks to appoint a Fixed Term, Term time only for one academic year to join our German team, beginning on [date to be confirmed 2019]. The Tutor will teach on courses in advanced German Language for the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures in the new School of Humanities at Royal Holloway.

The successful applicant will ideally have relevant teaching experience in German culture and/or language in Higher Education or at a comparable level. A high level of competence in spoken and written German language (native or near-native) is essential for this role.

The Language Tutor will deliver up to 6 hours of undergraduate courses in German, including classes focused on grammar, comprehension and writing skills, and oral speaking practice. The courses in question are all well established and a full online module structure, including readings, homework assignment topics and pre-prepared presentations, is available for each via our online learning platform Moodle.

The successful applicant will mark weekly formative homework and co-operate with the German team in the preparation and marking of written and oral examinations.

Teaching takes place in Terms 1-2. Examining takes place in Term 3.

The courses to be taught will most likely include:

  • GM1009 German Language 1 – our core advanced German module for first years, including 2 hours per week of oral practice with students
  • GM2009 – German Language 2 - our core advanced German module for second years
  • GM3009 – German Language 3 - our core advanced German module for final years
  • A weekly Grammar Lecture offered as additional support to the students on the above courses

This is a term-time, fixed- term 0.5 position, with the possibility of renewal after that period.
