Research Fellow- Mechatronics
The role is a part of the large multi-disciplinary Wellcome and EPSRC funded programme called iFIND (intelligent Fetal Imaging and Diagnosis) which will develop computer guided imaging and robotics systems to improve prenatal screening and the diagnosis of fetal abnormalities.
The main focus of the role is to design, develop and implement robotic systems, or extensions to existing commercial robotic systems, for the automated positioning of multiple ultrasound probes used for fetal imaging. Control strategies will be developed to move and position the ultrasound probe system using ultrasound images as input.
The post-holder must possess strong skills in mechanical design, system building and interfacing, as well as experience in constructing robotic devices and sensor development and especially experience in developing devices for medical applications. A key component of the role will be to interact with the clinical team and other researchers in the Biomedical Engineering Department to test and validate the robotics system to ensure that it is suitable for fetal anomaly scanning.
